Text FX #4 - Pixelated Text
|
I
came across a tutorial similar to this effect
a little while ago, but unfortunately I forgot
to bookmark it. Therefore I have had to have
a go at creating this tutorial - it isn't the
same as the one I've found, but if the person
who designed the original tutorial would e-mail
me, I would be really grateful.
The filters used in this tutorial are Fragment,
Unsharp Mask and Find Edges. This technique
is also available to download in the Action
Section under TextFX Actions.
These
tutorials were designed using Photoshop 7, but
will work on earlier versions.

- Create
a new canvas 800 x 600 pixels, 72dpi with a white background.
- Select
the Type tool from the Tool box and enter your text.
Use a large sized font and the colour of your choice
- I used ARDS1 at a size of 300 with a light blue colour.
- Once
you have your text in position, drag the layer onto
the Create New Layer icon in the Layers palette and
rename it Fragmented.
- Now
run the Fragment filter - Filters
Pixelate
Fragment - and then press CTRL+F another 3-4 times.
This will run the Fragment filter again without having
to go back in to the Filter menu numerous times.
-
With
the fragmented layer still active, apply the Unsharp
Mask - Filters
Sharpen
Unsharp, and enter
the settings shown in the image opposite. Click OK
to apply the new settings.
Ok,
now drag the layer on to the Create New Layer icon to duplicate
it and rename is Find Edges. Run the Find Edges filter -
Filters
Stylize
Find Edges.
You now actually have a couple of effects rolled into one
- try turning off the Fragmented Layer and see what results
you get.
Below
is a larger version of the effect I came up with - try experimenting
with different fonts and settings:
